Why choose enclosed transport?

  • Shielded from rain, snow, and road debris
  • Lift-gate loading for low-clearance vehicles
  • Cargo insurance verified on your carrier before every dispatch
  • Typically fewer vehicles per load, and fewer stops
  • Carrier vetted on every dispatch

Inside an enclosed trailer

Your vehicle rides inside an enclosed trailer, shielded from rain, snow, and road debris. Enclosed trailers are not climate-controlled, so they do not control temperature.

Who enclosed transport is for

Enclosed transport makes the most sense when condition matters as much as arrival. It is a common choice for:

  • Collector and classic cars
  • Exotics and other high-value vehicles
  • New luxury deliveries that should arrive clean
  • Low-clearance vehicles that need careful loading
  • Anyone who wants their vehicle shielded from weather and road debris

If you are weighing a vehicle's value, finish, or ride height against the extra cost, enclosed is often the safer call. If you would simply rather not think about weather or road grime along the way, that is a good enough reason too. Tell us about the vehicle and we will help you decide.

Enclosed vs. open transport

Both options move your vehicle safely with a licensed, insured carrier. The difference is how much of the trip your vehicle spends exposed.

  • Weather and road debris: on an open trailer your vehicle is exposed to rain, snow, dust, and debris. On an enclosed trailer it rides inside, shielded from all of them.
  • Vehicles per load: open carriers typically haul more vehicles at once. Enclosed carriers generally haul fewer.
  • Typical stops: fewer vehicles on the truck usually means fewer pickups and drop-offs along the way.

Enclosed typically costs more than open because fewer vehicles share the load. For many everyday cars, open is a sound choice. For vehicles where condition is everything, enclosed is usually worth it. See our open auto transport page for the other option.

What to expect

  • Lift-gate loading is available for low-clearance vehicles.
  • Enclosed carriers generally haul fewer vehicles per load, which usually means fewer stops and often quicker delivery. Timing is never guaranteed.
  • In our experience, enclosed drivers tend to be more experienced with high-value vehicles.
  • Enclosed carriers generally carry higher cargo insurance limits than open carriers. We verify the actual cargo insurance on your assigned carrier before every dispatch, and you can ask us for it.
  • Enclosed trailers protect against weather and debris, but they do not control temperature.

How we vet your carrier

Before any carrier is dispatched, we confirm active operating authority and current cargo insurance on that specific carrier. One common reason we pass on a carrier is that the truck is not listed, or not enough trucks are listed, on the scheduled autos of its insurance policy. Enclosed transport FAQ

It depends on the vehicle and how much protection matters to you. For collector, classic, exotic, high-value, or low-clearance vehicles, enclosed is usually the better fit. For an everyday car, open transport is often enough. If you are unsure, call us and we will talk it through with you.

Enclosed carriers generally haul fewer vehicles per load, which usually means fewer stops and often quicker delivery once your vehicle is picked up. There can be fewer enclosed trucks on a given route, though, and timing is never guaranteed.

Yes. Lift-gate loading is available for low-clearance vehicles, so your car does not have to climb a steep ramp. Give us accurate ride height and dimensions up front so we can match the right carrier and equipment.

Yes. Enclosed carriers generally carry higher cargo insurance limits than open carriers. We verify the actual cargo insurance on your assigned carrier before every dispatch, and you can ask us for it in writing.

Not always. Many new cars ship on open trailers. If it is a luxury delivery or you want it to arrive free of road grime and weather exposure, enclosed is a sensible choice.
