Hawaii Transport Quote
Verified pricing in writing — no hidden port fees.
Shipping a car to Hawaii from California, shipping a car to Hawaii from Texas, or relocating your vehicle from anywhere in the continental United States — every Hawaii auto transport shipment starts with the same foundation: expert coordination of the mainland ground leg, West Coast port processing, and ocean freight to your island. Approved Auto Transport handles Hawaii vehicle shipping to Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, and Kauai — both directions, all origins. Why Hawaii Shipping Is Different
Hawaii auto transport is a multi-leg coordination — not a single truck booking. Your vehicle travels by ground to a West Coast departure port, clears port processing, crosses the Pacific by ocean freight, passes Hawaii's mandatory agricultural inspection, and is released at your island's port. Every leg has to connect. We manage the full chain.
Island by Island Port Guide
Every island has its own port — and its own logistics. Here's where your vehicle lands.
Oahu
Honolulu Port
Hawaii's primary shipping hub. Most frequent sailings and the most accessible port for Oahu residents and military personnel stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hickam AFB, Schofield Barracks, and Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
Maui
Kahului Port
Direct service available. No inter-island transfer required for Maui-bound shipments.
Big Island
Hilo Port / Kawaihae Port
Two ports serve the Big Island. Hilo serves the east side of the island. Kawaihae serves the west side including the Kona area. Your delivery zip determines which port is closest.
Kauai
Nawiliwili Port
Regular direct service available to Hawaii's Garden Isle.
Service Types
Two ocean freight options — choose what fits your vehicle and budget. Mainland legs ship via open transport or enclosed transport to the departure port.
RoRo — Roll-on/Roll-off
The standard method for most vehicle shipments. Your vehicle is driven directly onto the vessel and secured for the ocean crossing. Most cost-effective option.
Container Shipping
Premium protection for high-value, classic, or modified vehicles. Your vehicle is loaded into a sealed container for the ocean crossing. Priced accordingly.
EV Notice: Electric and EV vehicles require special pricing due to maritime shipping restrictions. Please contact us directly for an EV-specific Hawaii quote.
Seasonal Availability
Ocean freight port rates are tracked in real time — that's our job, not yours. Your quote always reflects current pricing. What changes seasonally is demand. May through September sees higher booking volume across all islands. Whether you're shipping peak season or off season, we recommend booking four to six weeks in advance to secure your preferred schedule.
Military PCS to or from Hawaii
Hawaii is classified as an OCONUS duty station, meaning the Department of Defense covers ocean freight for one personally owned vehicle (POV) per family through the official Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) under the Defense Personal Property Program. If you need to ship a second vehicle, your vehicle doesn't qualify for the VPC program, or you prefer private coordination with direct communication from pickup to port — that's exactly what we do.
Military personnel should have the following ready: government-issued military ID, vehicle title or current registration, proof of insurance, and official PCS orders. Service members should also reference the MVR/DF-10 certificate for vehicle registration exemptions upon arrival — check with your installation's transportation office for current eligibility.
Book four to six weeks ahead of your report date. Summer PCS windows fill up fast across all island ports.
Shipping Your Car to Hawaii as a Travel Nurse
Hawaii is one of the most requested travel nurse destinations in the country — and one of the most logistically complex when it comes to getting your vehicle there. Whether you're heading to a Honolulu hospital system, a Maui facility, or anywhere across the islands, we coordinate your vehicle around your contract start date.
Travel nurses heading to Hawaii commonly ship to facilities including:
- Queens Medical Center — Honolulu, Oahu (Hawaii's only Level 1 Trauma Center)
- Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children — Honolulu, Oahu
- Pali Momi Medical Center — Aiea, Oahu
- Straub Medical Center — Honolulu, Oahu
- Maui Memorial Medical Center — Wailuku, Maui
- Hilo Benioff Medical Center — Hilo, Big Island
- Kona Community Hospital — Kealakekua, Big Island
- Wilcox Medical Center — Lihue, Kauai
13-week contract timelines are tight. Book your vehicle shipment the moment you accept your assignment — we recommend four to six weeks minimum lead time for Hawaii routes. Get a quote to lock in your dates.
What to Expect After Your Vehicle Arrives
Most customers arrange direct pickup from their island's port — it's the most practical and cost-effective option for Hawaii-side logistics.
After your vehicle arrives you have 30 days to register it in Hawaii. You'll need a Hawaii safety inspection — approximately $20 to $30 at any certified station — along with your title, bill of lading, and photo ID at your county DMV.
All vehicles must pass Hawaii's mandatory agricultural inspection before port release. HDOA requires your vehicle to be completely clean inside and out — no dirt or mud in the wheel wells, no personal items in the interior or trunk, and no restricted materials of any kind. A clean vehicle clears faster. Plan accordingly.
